Tesla has opened a new Supercharger in Canada this week, this time in Kitchener, Ontario, and it has a very unique layout that also includes Level 2 Destination Chargers.
The opening of the Kitchener Supercharger has been a long time coming. Construction first started all the way back in early December or possible even late November, 2023.
Located in the parking lot of the Sunrise Shopping Center at 1400 Ottawa St., the installation of 8 V3 Superchargers stalls was completed within a few months, and then the wait began.
Now a little over 10 months later and the site is finally open. According to the mobile app, it costs $0.45/kWh to plug in
What makes this Supercharger unique is that there are also 9 Destination Chargers located in between the Superchargers, a layout that is likely to cause some confusion among Tesla, and non-Tesla EV owners.
Based on how the Superchargers and Destination Chargers have been set up, one side is technically for the Superchargers, while the other is for the Wall Connectors, although you should be able to park on either side and have the cables reach your car.
There are also 2 Destination Chargers with their own spots directly next to the Superchargers, for a total of 11 Destination Chargers and 8 Superchargers at this site.
This is Kitchener’s second Supercharger station. The first one, located at the Tesla Kitchener Service Center, features 8 V3 stalls open to the public. That station, which opened in 2020, also marked the milestone of being Tesla’s 100th Supercharger in Canada.
