Tesla is taking an Indian power company to court for using the Tesla Power and Tesla Power USA names to promote its products.
At a hearing in the Delhi High Court, Tesla lawyers argued that Tesla Power India continued to use the Tesla Power name after a cease-and-desist order was sent to the company in April 2022, according to a report from Asia Financial.
The court record showed multiple screenshots of the company’s website, which was apparently connected to the United States, including being headquartered in Delaware. The site used the name Tesla Power USA LLC in its footer. In addition, the site celebrated the company as “a pioneer and leader in affordable batteries.”
For Tesla Power India, the company noted that it never claimed to be related to Elon Musk’s Tesla. The company also argued that its main business was producing lead-acid batteries and that it did not intend to enter the EV business.
The judge has allowed Tesla Power India three weeks to submit written responses and gather documents to support its defence.
The case will continue on May 22 in the Delhi High Court.
