Tesla Seeks Cybertruck Certification in South Korea

Tesla has started the certification process for the Cybertruck in South Korea. The electric pickup, currently limited to the US and Mexican markets, and soon to be Canada, could also soon be available for purchase outside of North America for the first time.

According to a report from South Korean media outlet Bloter, a Cybertruck has been sent to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (KATRI) in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, for certification testing.

An official from KATRI mentioned that while the agency regularly receives vehicles imported by individuals or companies for testing, the Cybertruck’s certification is being managed by Tesla itself. Tesla’s involvement in directly sending the vehicle to KATRI suggests the automaker is actively working to streamline the certification process.

The Korea Transportation Safety Authority plays a crucial role in determining whether vehicles meet the country’s safety and operational standards. In the case of the Cybertruck, the vehicle must undergo a series of rigorous tests to ensure it complies with local regulations before it can be sold to consumers.

Tesla has not officially confirmed that it is seeking approval for the Cybertruck in South Korea, nor has it publicly announced specific dates for international sales outside of North America.
However, the certification process indicates that Tesla is busy working behind the scenes to prepare for a broader global rollout.

Currently, the Cybertruck is touring around South Korea, giving potential customers the opportunity to see the electric pickup firsthand.
