Tesla reintroduces Model 3 Long Range RWD in the US

Tesla has brought back the once popular Model 3 Long Range (LR) Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD). The new Model 3 variant offers the best value in the Tesla lineup, but unfortunately is only available in the United States and Puerto Rico.

According to an update to the Design Studio on Thursday night, the Model 3 LR RWD starts at US$42,490. However, this variant is eligible for the US$7,500 federal tax credit, bringing the effective price down to an incredible US$34,990 for eligible buyers.

This is a full US$4,000 cheaper than the RWD variant, which starts at US$38,990, and is not eligible for the tax credit.

For that price, you get 363 miles (584km) of range, the most range of any Model 3 – nearly 100 miles (160km) more than the RWD variant, and 22 miles (35km) more than the Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD). It also has an impressive 4.9s 0-60mph time, and a 125mph top speed, the same across the Model 3 lineup, with the exception of the Performance variant.

Interestingly, this new Model 3 variant is only available to purchase (cash or finance), but not available to lease, and as we mentioned, also not available in Canada.

Tesla used to sell a Model 3 LR RWD back in mid-2017 when the electric sedan first launched. However, a few years later in early 2019 it was discontinued, with Tesla opting to instead focus production on the LR Dual Motor configurations.

It then reappeared early last year, but only in Europe, and only for fleet customers.
