Tesla has reached another new milestone with Model Y. Not only was it the best-selling car in the world last year, the compact SUV was also the most-produced vehicle in the world in 2023, surpassing cars from Ford and Toyota, which were very popular in dozens of countries.
Tesla created the perfect car that captivated millions of hearts. Its Model Y was last year’s top-selling car, surpassing longtime crowd favorites. Now not only sales data, but also production data has become available. French research company Inovev recently published a comprehensive study of vehicle production and registration in 2023, as reported by Autoblog (via @EstherKokkelman/X).
Researchers have found that Tesla Model Y has overtaken Toyota RAV4 and Ford F-Series trucks to become the most-produced vehicle in 2023.
Toyota RAV4 lost to Model Y by 148,368 units. This year, the gap between Tesla’s electric SUV and other cars is expected to continue to widen. In third place was Ford F-Series with 933,198 units. The popular Toyota Corolla was only in fourth place with 869,228 vehicles. Closing out the top 5 was Honda CR-V with 679,832 units produced.
At the bottom of the top ten are Ram Trucks, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Camry, and BYD Song. Tesla Model 3 closes out the top 10 with 636,519 units. However, it is noteworthy that the difference with other cars from the bottom of the top 10 is not that great. It is also worth noting that Tesla stopped production of Model 3 for a few weeks in 2023 to move to production of an updated version of the car, which had a direct impact on its position on this list.
- Tesla Model Y: 1,137,885 units
- Toyota RAV4: 989,517
- Ford F-Series: 933,198
- Toyota Corolla: 869,228
- Honda CR-V: 679,832
- Ram Trucks: 651,581
- Toyota Hilux: 646,975
- Toyota Camry: 645,915
- BYD Song: 645,264
- Tesla Model 3: 636,519
It is worth keeping in mind that production data differs from actual sales data. Despite this, with 1.23 million units, Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car in the world in 2023, eclipsing all competitors.
