Tesla owners will soon gain access to a new feature designed to help stretch their remaining range when the battery runs low. Hidden code in the latest Tesla mobile app, an upcoming software update will introduce a “Low Power Mode” that prioritizes essential functions while reducing non-critical energy use.
How Low Power Mode Works
Once rolled out, Low Power Mode will be accessible through the in-car touchscreen under Controls > Charging > Low Power Mode or directly via quick actions in the Tesla mobile app. The feature is intended to conserve energy by limiting background systems and auxiliary functions when battery levels drop, ensuring drivers can travel further before needing to recharge.
Among the features that will be disabled with Low Power Mode activated include Sentry Mode, Summon Standy, Outlets (Cybertruck only), Keep Accessory Power On, Keep Climate On and Camp Mode, Scheduling Preconditioning, and Cabin Overheat Protection.
However, while plugged in, either at a Supercharger or at a Level 2 charger, Sentry Mode and accessory power will remain available. While plugged in at a Supercharger, Keep Climate On and Camp Mode will also be available.
Drivers will also be able to customize the feature by selecting a threshold at which Low Power Mode automatically activates. Early indications suggest the default setting will engage when the battery drops to 10 percent, though this can be adjusted to suit individual preferences. For travelers or commuters who often push their vehicles close to empty, this could provide an additional layer of reassurance.

Although the exact update that will introduce Low Power Mode has not yet been confirmed, speculation points to the 2025.32 release scheduled for September.
The discovery of related code in Tesla App version 4.48 provides further evidence that the feature is close to launch. Historically, such app updates have been strong indicators of what is coming to the vehicle software is not far away, and could be launched in the weeks ahead.
