Tesla has opened two new Superchargers in Canada in recent days, one in Whistler, British Columbia, and the other in Markham, Ontario.
Whistler Supercharger
The first of the two to open was the new Whistler Supercharger, the second station for the resort municipality. We first learned about this location October 2023 when Tesla filed a permit application for the Whistler Marketplace Shopping Center (4370 Lorimer Road). Construction began in June 2024, and unlike many other Supercharger projects across the country, was activated in relatively quick fashion.
The station was officially powered up last Wednesday. According to the mobile app, there are 12 V4 (V3.5) stalls available, and it costs $0.55/kWh to plug in.
The shopping center where these Superchargers are located is pay parking, but it appears that paying is not required if you are using the Supercharger and staying with your vehicle. This is in contrast to the existing Urban (72kW) Supercharger located in the underground parking of the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, which costs $11 per hour just to get into the garage, and even if you pay that, the stalls are frequently blocked by hotel guests, and even the hotel valet.

Markham Supercharger
We said the Whistler Supercharger was turned on in a relatively short time frame, and you will see why with the Markham Supercharger. Construction of this site started all the way back in July 2023, about a year before shovels hit the ground in Whistler, yet it was only turned on last Friday.
If you’re counting, that is around 15 months later. As we pointed out in a post on X, it took Tesla longer to get this Supercharger up and running that it took to build Giga Shanghai (and it wasn’t even close). This isn’t to say Tesla is to blame for the delay, as the site has been sitting complete and idle since last year, but rather with the local municipality and utility company.
According to the mobile app it costs $0.43/kWh to plug in at one of the 8 V3 stalls at the new Marham Supercharger. With this opening, there are now three Superchargers with a total of 48 stalls within a 6km stretch of Hwy 7 in Markham.
UPDATE: 15 months after construction started, the new Supercharger in Markham is finally open!
