Tesla’s website team has been busy today. After launching the Design Studio in Singapore, they have also now done the same for Puerto Rico.
Even though Tesla doesn’t have an official presence on the island, there are still hundreds of Tesla owners in the U.S territory. Those owners had to place their orders on the U.S. version of the site and pick up their new cars in Florida. They would then have them shipped home at their own expense.
According to the online configurator, it looks like they can now directly purchase the Model 3 and Model Y. The Model S/X also appear on the site, but you can only sign up to “Get Updates” about the vehicles.
Since it is a U.S. territory, pricing for the two vehicles is the same as those found on the US version of the site. The biggest difference will be the sales tax, which Puerto Rico exempts all electric vehicles (EVs) from paying.
Deliveries of both vehicles are expected to begin in March.
The new Puerto Rico Design Studio comes two weeks to the day before the opening of the first Service & Delivery Center on the island. Last year we reported that Tesla had purchased a building at 381 Calle Juan Calaf featuring office space and a large warehouse that would be converted to house multiple service bays.
According to Rafael (@Teslatino), who has been a vocal advocate in getting Tesla to come to Puerto Rico, this new location will open on February 22, 2021.
@tesla’s first Puerto Rico service center is scheduled for opening on February 22, 2021.
Thank you goes to Tesla for working so hard and making this happen even during these challenging times.
