Tesla has increased the price of the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant in China on Friday morning, following large price cuts last month that brought the price of the entry level variant to its lowest point ever.
Just a few days into 2023 Tesla lowered prices on all of their vehicles in China. For the Model Y RWD the price was reduced 10% to ¥259,900, nearly ¥20,000 cheaper than its previous lowest price of ¥276,000 in late 2021.
Friday’s price increase didn’t wipe out that entire price reduction, only taking a small bite out of it, increasing ¥2,000 (~$395CAD) to ¥261,900 (~$51,800 CAD) according to an update on the online configurator. This price is still well off the all time high of ¥316,900 that was in place most of last year. (h/t: @Tslachan)
Prices for all other variants of the Model Y and the Model 3 were unchanged, as were the delivery estimates. The Model Y RWD and Long Range variants can be expected to be delivered within 2 to 5 weeks, while the Model Y Performance has a shorter delivery window of 1 to 4 weeks.
After a record year in 2022 Tesla China started off 2023 by reporting over 66,000 vehicles sales in the month. The majority of those were exported to other markets around the world, leaving 26,843 domestic sales in China last month. The Model Y recorded 14,184 of those sales, enough to put in just behind the Mercedes Benz GLC as the second best selling premium SUV in China in January.
