Hyundai Evolve+ subscription program launches with IONIQ 5 or Kona Electric

Hyundai has launched a new subscription program that gives potential electric vehicle (EV) owners the chance to try out the IONIQ 5 or Kona electric on a month-to-month basis.

Called Evolve+, the subscription program includes all maintenance, insurance, and roadside assistance in the monthly cost, which will set you back $699 USD per month for the Kona Electric, or $899 per month for the IONIQ 5. There is no long term commitment required and subscribers can cancel at any time.

However just like a lease there are mileage limits. Subscribers will be allowed to drive 1,000 miles (1,609km) per month, although any unused miles in a month will be rolled over. If you go over your mileage limit you will pay $20 for every 100 miles over, up to a maximum of $1,500. After that the fee increases to $1 for every mile.

“With no paperwork, no commitment and no long-term loan, Evolve+ is an optimal solution for the ‘EV-curious’ car shopper. We’ve prioritized simplicity and flexibility with the subscription process, allowing customers to place orders and renew on their own terms on their own time all via smartphone. We are hoping that by offering a subscription-based option, we will increase EV adoption and awareness as customers transition into an EV future,” said Olabisi Boyle, vice president, product planning and mobility strategy, Hyundai Motor North America.

To sign up all you have to do is download the Evolve+ app on the iOS App Store or Google Play store, create an account and begin searching for a new car. There is also a one-time $300 activation fee required before you can subscriber.

The program is currently only available at select US dealership in six states, but the program is expected to expand further before the end of the year. There has been no similar program announced for Canada.
