Tesla expands Cybertruck orders outside California and Texas [Update]

Tesla is now allowing more customers to order a Foundation Series Cybertruck. After limiting orders to California and Texas, customers from states across the country and now being invited to place an order.

As we all know by now, Tesla started deliveries of the Cybertruck on November 30 at Giga Texas. Those deliveries were limited to a select few customers, but not long after the company started sending out emails to more customers inviting them to place an order for a ‘Foundation Series’ Cybertruck. This configuration carried a $20,000 premium over the estimated prices for the regular Cybertrucks, but it also came with a large number of accessories, limited edition badging, and of course early delivery of a Cybertruck.

According to the first emails that were sent out, Tesla was planning on delivering the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) version of the Cybertruck starting in December, but only in California and Texas, with the company saying it would expand to more states in 2024. Ahead of that expansion, Tesla is now inviting customers outside of those two states to place an order.

According to reports on social media, customers from more than two dozen new states have received the email inviting them to order within the last 24 hours.

There have also been reports from customers that didn’t receive the email, but checked their account online and noticed they could finalize their order. Here is a list of states that we have seen on social media where customers have been able to place an order. (list updated to 26 states, thanks to @MilMileBattery)

  • Arizona
  • Pennsylvania
  • Massachusetts
  • Nebraska
  • New Hampshire
  • Tennessee
  • Illinois
  • Minnesota
  • Colorado
  • Nevada
  • Idaho
  • Utah
  • Florida
  • New York
  • Indiana
  • Georgia
  • Alabama
  • California
  • Texas
  • Vermont
  • Missouri
  • Oregon
  • Michigan
  • Washington
  • New Jersey
  • South Carolina

It appears as though the expansion is not due to a lack of orders from customers in California and Texas. The original delivery timelines for the AWD and Cyberbeast were for between December and March and early 2024 respectively. Now those dates have been pushed out to between January and March for the AWD, and mid to late 2024 for the Cyberbeast.

Unfortunately there is still no sign of expansion into Canada, and given the timelines above stretching into late 2024, we’re not optimistic we will see any movement north of the border for some time. But hopefully we’re wrong on that.
