Tesla ends up going with single blade for Cybertruck’s Gigawiper, will cost $75 to replace

The Cybertruck has appeared in Tesla’s official Parts Catalog, revealing new information about the electric truck. One new piece of information relates to one of the most talked about features of the Cybertruck, it’s massive wiper we affectionately call the Gigawiper.

When Tesla first unveiled the Cybertruck prototype in 2019, one thing it did not have was a front wiper. With the unique angled shape of the Cybertruck’s front end, Tesla couldn’t go with a traditional design where the two wipers would park underneath the top of the hood. Instead the engineers came up with a different design of a single wiper blade that parked in an upright position on the left side of the windshield.

The only “problem” with that design is that the wiper had to clear the massive Cybertruck windshield (which by the way, will cost US$1,900 to replace according to the Parts Catalog). In some of the earlier builds it was discovered that Tesla was actually using two wiper blades on the Gigawiper’s arm, meaning they could be easily replaced with conventional blades found at your local auto parts store.

However it appears through its testing that Tesla discovered this wasn’t an ideal solution, and have gone with a single wiper blade instead. That’s according to the Parts Catalog, which shows a single wiper blade in the diagram for the ‘Wipers & Washers’ section.

Presumably this is wiper blade is unique to the Cybertruck, and at least for now, won’t be available at your auto parts store. Based on measurements taken by Auto Connected Car News, the wiper arm is about 50″ long, which is 10″ longer than the longest wiper blade made by Napa.

So how much will it cost to replace? US$75, according to a screenshot of the Catalog shared by X user @niccruzpatane. If you ever need to replace the wiper arm assembly, that will set you back US$165. As noted by Patane, both of those prices are fairly reasonable.

The wiper blade wasn’t the only new piece of information revealed through the Parts Catalog. While we already knew the front bumper camera had a washer, we now know it is also heated.
