Tesla drops Powerwall price in Australia again

Australians looking to install a Powerwall got some good news with a recent $1,699 price drop. The new suggested retail price for a Tesla Powerwall is now $12,900, close to the initial price in 2022.

During 2022, Tesla had multiple price hikes to move the cost from $12,750 to $16,230 due to supply constraints and other issues.

Here is a snapshot of the price of the Tesla Powerwalll since it was introduced in the Australian market via SolarQuotes.

According to an email seen by SolarQuotes, this latest Powerwall price drop was due to the following:

  • Ongoing improvements to the cost of goods
  • Improved freight pricing and logistics
  • Ongoing consistent supply

Although this is excellent news for those looking to install the battery pack. It is a bit of an annoyance for those who bought it at the peak.

Interestingly, Tesla is facing some competition in the Australian stationary storage space from Sungrow Power Supply. The Chinese-based company won the best budget battery at the SQ Installers’ Choice Awards earlier this year and has slowly gained market share in Australia. Reviews of the system have been good, and so far, its SBR HV battery is a runaway hit. Sungrow priced their battery just below Tesla’s, costing around $10,500, depending on the installer.

One thing to keep an eye on is if Tesla looks to match Sungrow or if they continue to price the Powerwall higher as the “premium” option in the market.

Unfortunately Powerwalls are still unavailable in Canada directly from Tesla. There are however a number of certified resellers and installers across the country. To find if there is one near you simply use Google and search for a certified Tesla Powerwall installer near you.
