Tesla has added another discount to some of their existing inventory vehicles, this time to the Model Y in Canada. The discounts are currently only applicable to the entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant and a handful of Performance variants across the country.
Tesla has been discounting the Model Y in existing inventory in Canada since last month, but that discount was only applicable to seven-seaters. The $580 discount only applied to those cars with a third row because Tesla has seemingly discontinued this configuration for the Canadian market after switching to importing vehicles from China instead of California.
All of the seven-seat Model Ys in existing inventory have since sold out, but now with just a few days to go in the second quarter, Tesla has started discounting other variants. Based on a review of the existing inventory website by Drive Tesla, the discounts can be as high as $790 on brand new vehicles.
There are currently at least two dozen Model Y RWD variants in British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, and Ontario, with discounts ranging from $600 to $640 depending on the configuration and location. The best deal we could find were a two Model Y RWDs in B.C. (Surrey and Victoria) for $59,930, before fees. Add in the federal and provincial rebates of $5,000 and up to $4,000, and you could get into a brand new Model Y in B.C. for a little over $50,000 (taxes are applied based on the pre-rebate amount).
The Model Y RWD comes equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells and 394km of range. Thanks to the LFP cells it can be charged to 100% on a daily basis, putting its daily range very close to that of the Long Range variant, which starts around $20,000 more expensive at $69,990, that should only be charged to 80% to 90% on a daily basis.
There are also a handful of Performance variants available in B.C. and Saskatchewan. Discounts on these vehicles are a little higher at $790, putting the lowest price at $75,530 for a white Model Y Performance in Saskatoon.
Tesla is still offering a similar discount on the Model Y in the US. Earlier this month the discount was $580, but now the discounts range from $590 down to $480.
The discounts are much more substantial on the Model S and Model X, going as high as $15,000 in Canada and over $10,000 in the US.
