Tesla CEO Elon Musk donates $1,000,000 to plant 1,000,000 trees

To celebrate the success of his Youtube channel amassing 20 million subscribers (now sitting at 25.3 million), content creator MrBeast was challenged by his followers in May 2019 to plant just as many trees. From that idea was born TeamTrees.org.

Planting 20 million trees would be no easy feat, so TeamTrees.org partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation, which is the longest-running tree planting NGO, with 47 years of experience. After 5 months of development, and just 4 days of being live on the internet, they have been able to catch the attention of billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk via Twitter.

After being mentioned in a tweet by another successful Youtuber who had previously interviewed Musk, Marques Brownlee was able to get him to pledge to plant 1,000,000 trees, the equivalent of $1,000,000.

Since catching the attention of the internet for his generous donation, Musk has now changed his Twitter username to Treelon.
