Tesla moves closer to official entry in Bulgaria with new company registration

Tesla is taking another step toward expanding its presence in Eastern Europe, with new filings showing the automaker is preparing to formally enter the Bulgarian market.

According to records from Bulgaria’s commercial registry, a new entity called Tesla BGR EOOD was established on February 18, 2026, with a broad mandate that covers “import, operation, distribution, sales, servicing, maintenance and repair” of electric vehicles. The company is based in Sofia and is fully owned by Tesla International B.V., the automaker’s European holding company. (h/t: @SawyerMerritt)

While Tesla has not yet made a public announcement, the scope of the newly registered business strongly suggests the company is laying the groundwork for official vehicle sales and after-sales support in the country. That would mark a significant shift, as Tesla currently operates in Bulgaria without a direct retail presence, relying instead on imports through nearby markets such as Germany and Austria.

Filling a gap in an underserved market

Despite lacking an official dealership or service network, Tesla has already established a notable footprint in Bulgaria. As of mid-2025, there were more than 3,200 Tesla vehicles registered in the country, accounting for a sizable portion of the country’s growing EV market.

However, the ownership experience has not always matched what drivers receive in more established regions. Earlier this year, Tesla discontinued its Premium Connectivity service in Bulgaria, citing the country as an “unsupported market” due to infrastructure and operational limitations.

Charging network and regulatory shifts

Despite not having an official presence, Tesla has built some limited infrastructure in the country. The company currently operates three Supercharger stations in Bulgaria, including locations in Sofia and Plovdiv. In 2025, Tesla transitioned these stations from free or subsidized use to a paid model, aligning with European Union regulations that require transparent pricing and broader accessibility.
