In a first for Tesla, the car company has the official title of the most purchased new car in Switzerland.
This is according to the latest data from Auto-Suisse, who released the 2021 numbers earlier today.
The top-selling car was the Tesla Model 3, with 5,074 vehicles sold.
The Model 3 overtook the “historic leader” in Suisse car sales, the Oktavia from Skoda.
It also means that the best-selling Suisse car is an EV for the first time.
The top five cars in terms of sales in 2021 were:
- Tesla Model 3
- Skoda Oktavia
- Audi Q3
- Volkswagen Tiguan
- Fiat 500
Auto-Suisse also compiled an outlook for 2022, but uncertainties continue to plague the new auto market.
As per Chistoph Walnik from Auto-Suisse
We are not used to the demand for new vehicles being significantly higher than the supply. But we are staying and believe the situation will improve no later than the second half of 2022
It will be interesting to track how Tesla continues to grow their footprint in Switzerland. Especially considering the Tesla Model Y only came into the market in late August 2021.
In addition, it will be interesting to see how other EV models fair in the market with the success of the Model 3 and Y.
