In an all-Canadian partnership, Toronto-based SWTCH Energy and Quebec’s FLO have joined forces, unveiling a new roaming deal aimed at simplifying electric vehicle (EV) charging across North America. The deal eliminates a long-standing frustration for EV drivers—having to juggle multiple apps, accounts, and payment methods to charge their vehicles on different networks.
A Unified Charging Ecosystem
With the new integration, EV owners using either the SWTCH or FLO mobile app can now seamlessly access both companies’ networks. That means existing wallets and payment details will function across more than 180,000 chargers combined, covering SWTCH’s 70,000-plus stations and FLO’s 110,000 public chargers.
“Our partnership with FLO represents exactly the kind of industry collaboration that will encourage and accelerate EV adoption,” said Carter Li, CEO of SWTCH. “Through breaking down network silos…we’re creating the seamless, integrated charging ecosystem that drivers deserve, and the industry needs to reach its full potential.”
Simplifying Trip Planning
For EV drivers, the agreement translates into far more than just convenience. The expanded roaming network supports easier trip planning, greater visibility of charging station locations, and a consistent user experience across Canada and the United States. By reducing fragmentation, the deal addresses one of the biggest barriers to long-distance EV travel: the uncertainty of charger availability and compatibility.
Both companies also offer advanced hardware to support public charging. SWTCH’s lineup includes Level 2 AC chargers as well as DC fast chargers ranging from 50 kW to more than 350 kW.
FLO, meanwhile, provides equipment like the FLO Ultra, offering up to 320 kW dual-port charging, and its CoRe+ series delivering AC charging speeds up to 19.2 kW.
Other Roaming Partnerships
The partnership builds on existing roaming agreements that SWTCH and FLO have signed with other networks. FLO drivers, for example, already enjoy access to more than 90,000 third-party chargers through partnerships with BC Hydro, ChargePoint, Shell Recharge, eCharge Network, and Quebec’s Electric Circuit. SWTCH also maintains roaming arrangements with Electric Circuit to broaden its footprint in Quebec.
