Stellantis investing $3.6 billion in Ontario

Stellantis announced they are investing $3.6 billion into its Ontario plants in Windsor and Brampton.

As well, the company will expand its Automotive Research and Development Centre.

The investment will ensure Stellantis can do the following:

  • Windsor Assembly Plant will add an all-new, flexible multi-energy vehicle architecture. This will be in addition to their current vehicle production line-up. Re-tooling will begin in 2023.
  • Brampton Assembly will also add an all-new, flexible multi-energy vehicle architecture. Brampton will build at least one all-new electric vehicle. Re-tooling will begin in 2024.
  • Both assembly plants will return to three-shift operations
  • The Automotive Research and Development Centre will house Stellantis’s first battery lab in North America. As well, the Centre will expand its expertise in product development engineering.

With this $3.6 billion investment, Stellantis’s total investment in Canada is $8.6 billion.

This includes the previously announced Stellantis and LG Energy Solutions EV battery plant in Windsor, Ontario.

The investment is part of a broader $45 billion investment globally for the company to secure its long-term electrification strategy.
