SpaceX has reduced the price of its Starlink Mini dish to US$449 for customers in the United States, in a bid to capitalize on Black Friday frenzy. The promotional price is available only for a limited time, ending on December 8.
The Starlink Mini antenna, launched earlier this year, offers a smaller and more portable alternative to the standard Starlink terminal. Roughly the size of a laptop, it’s designed for users seeking satellite internet on the go, such as campers and digital nomads. Despite its smaller size, the Starlink Mini can achieve download speeds of 100Mbps or more, according to early adopters.
While not as fast as the standard Starlink dish, this performance is still sufficient for most online activities.
The Mini dish’s portability and convenience make it a compelling option for customers in the U.S., where network coverage is extensive. However, it’s worth noting that buyers must subscribe to the Starlink “Roam” plan, which is priced at US$165 per month. This plan enables users to access the internet across the country and internationally, but it’s significantly more expensive than the fixed-location residential tier.
Alternatively, a much cheaper US$50/month plan is available, though it comes with a 50GB data cap.
In other parts of the world, the Starlink Mini has been available at much lower prices—ranging from $165 to $199—due to greater network capacity. In contrast, SpaceX initially set the U.S. price at $599, reportedly to prevent overwhelming demand from straining the already-busy Starlink network.
For those who purchased the Mini dish prior to the price cut, SpaceX is offering a chance to request a partial refund through its customer support team. (via PCMag)
Meanwhile, Canadian consumers are still left out of the Starlink Mini rollout entirely. Despite high interest in portable satellite internet solutions north of the border, SpaceX has yet to make the Mini dish available in Canada.
