Rivian R1T owners have been looking forward to getting a retrofit to add the powered tonneau covers before the end of the year. However, according to new wording on the company’s website, the covers might now only come in 2025.
California-based Rivian has released new guidelines for R1T owners who want to purchase powered tonneau covers. According to its website, new buyers can now include tonneau covers when configuring their R1T electric pickup truck. While Rivian promises a 1-6 weeks delivery time, it has added that the trucks might be delivered without the powered tonneau cover, in which case the installation will be scheduled.
Existing R1T owners can order powered tonneau covers through Rivian’s online Gear Shop when available in 2025. However, owners experiencing issues with their covers can contact Rivian’s Service Support Team for assistance.
Rivian’s tonneau cover can be opened or closed with a button inside the cabin or from the Rivian app. It is designed to fold compactly into the front part of the truck bed to allow full access to the bed. It was originally an option on the first builds coming out of the Rivian factory in Normal, Illinois, but design issues forced the company to recall the product and completely redesign it.
Rivian produced 9,612 vehicles last quarter and delivered 13,790 units. It aims to produce 57,000 vehicles in 2024.
