Rivian adds XPEL PPF option to online configurator

Rivian reservation holders can now add a factory-direct XPEL paint protection film (PPF) to existing orders for their R1T electric truck.

Back in July the automaker announced the PPF option, saying they were going to add it to their website later this year. Rivian said there were going to be two options customers could pick between – either a gloss PPF that only covered the front of the vehicle, or a full-body satin (stealth) PPF.

This week the option went live on Rivian’s configurator, but only for the front gloss PPF. According to members of the RivianForums, selecting the option adds $1,500USD to their order, a fairly reasonable cost when compared to what third party installers charge.

This is the same price we speculated it would be set at back in July based on XPEL’s pricing on their website. Although the option isn’t live yet, the full satin PPF package should cost $4,500.

While it is technically a factory-direct option, the PPF won’t actually be applied by Rivian employees at their factory in Normal, Illinois.

Instead, XPEL will operate an installation facility near the factory to ensure “installation quality control.”

As an added bonus, the PPF packages will be covered under Rivian’s standard warranty, which is 5 years or 60,000 miles.
