Elon Musk said earlier this year that the world would officially meet Tesla’s Robotoxi on August 8. However, a report emerged that the unveiling was postponed with less than a month to go. Now the company boss has confirmed a new date for the unveil – October 10, 2024.
Tesla’s August reveal for the Robotaxi was postponed thanks to changes made to the driverless EV. The automaker concluded it would be best to shift the date to finalize more details and features. One of them could be the sanitation system, for which Tesla filed a patent.
The new date was officially revealed during Tesla’s second-quarter earnings call.
Musk has talked about Robotaxi for a long time. The concept is to create an autonomous EV sans a driving wheel that will be used as a taxi. While no company has started offering autonomous taxi service on a large scale (Waymo has thrown its own service to everyone in San Francisco), Tesla has been revamping a vital component of the new venture: Full Self-Driving (FSD).
Musk has been promising vehicles that can completely drive themselves based on FSD. However, the promise of fully autonomous operation has not yet materialized, but there were reports that Tesla was going to test Robotaxi in China.
