Kia is the second automaker that has been forced to stop taking orders for their electric vehicles (EVs) in Canada this week.
As of April 1, 2022, Kia Canada has stopped taking new orders for the EV6 and Niro EV. The plug-in hybrid Sorento is also included in stop order.
Kia Canada confirmed the news with Drive Tesla, saying strong demand and chip shortages affecting production and supply were the driving factors behind the decision.
“The consumer response to Kia’s electrified vehicles has been remarkable. The demand for recently launched products like Sorento PHEV and EV6 are growing, not just in Canada, but in many markets around the world. This, coupled with industry wide chip shortages, has affected production and availability. To be able to best manage customer expectations and honour delivery times, we have temporarily limited sales on these models”
A Kia spokesperson added that they are doing what they can to reduce long delivery wait times, and are advising customers to pick up to three different colours for their order.
“We do recommend that some customers, depending on the vehicle they are interested in, select up to three colour preferences so that we can strive for the earliest possible delivery.”
Volkswagen Canada also stopped taking orders for the ID.4 earlier this week.
The German automaker also cited high levels of demand and supply chain issues in an update to their website.
