Hyundai has officially unveiled the refreshed 2025 IONIQ 5, the first model to be manufactured at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia. This latest iteration of the IONIQ 5 introduces several key upgrades, including a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, increased battery capacity, more driving range, and the introduction of a new XRT variant designed for off-road experiences.
Expanded Range and Enhanced Battery Capacity
One of the biggest improvements in the 2025 IONIQ 5 is the increase in battery capacity across its lineup. The Standard Range models now feature a 63 kWh battery, up from 58 kWh, while the Long Range models have been upgraded from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh.
With these updates, the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Long Range models are now expected to achieve over 499km/310 miles on a single charge, up from the previous 488km/303 miles. The Standard Range model is expected to travel over 386km/240 miles.
For the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variants, the range is expected to vary between 402 and 450km/250 and 280 miles, depending on the trim and wheel configuration, up from 414km/260 miles previously.
Native NACS Charge Port
Another significant upgrade for the 2025 IONIQ 5 is the addition of a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, making it the first Hyundai model to offer direct access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network without the need for an adapter. Hyundai says it will continue to provide a Combined Charging System (CCS) adapter for those who need it.
IONIQ 5 XRT
The 2025 IONIQ 5 lineup has been further diversified with the introduction of the XRT model specifically designed for off-roaders. The XRT features a unique suspension lift of 23mm and is equipped with 18-inch black aluminum wheels paired with all-terrain tires. The exterior of the XRT is also distinct, coming with an etched digital camouflage cladding, black window surrounds, side sills, and XRT badging.
Inside, the XRT features H-Tex seating surfaces featuring an XRT-specific pattern and logo, a black headliner, and XRT-badged all-weather floor mats. The XRT also comes in two exclusive colours, Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl.
Pricing and Availability
The new Hyundai IONIQ 5 is expected to arrive at dealerships across North America this fall, with the first deliveries taking place early in 2025. Canadian and US pricing hasn’t been announced, but since the 2025 IONIQ 5 will be built in the US, it will qualify for the federal tax credit.
Initially it will only be eligible for half of the tax credit, $3,750, but once the facility starts battery production, it is expected to be eligible for the full $7,500 credit.
