GMC Hummer EV to use Unreal Engine HMI for digital cockpit

Epic Games and General Motors are teaming up to bring a very Tesla-like user interface to their upcoming Hummer EV.

The Unreal Engine has been around for a while now powering one of the worlds most popular games, Fortnite. Now Epic Games will be shifting gears and bringing their Unreal Engine human-machine interface (HMI) to the GMC Hummer EV.

According to a teaser video posted by the company to YouTube, the new technology will allow “designers, artists, and developers to work directly on the project that is deployed to the vehicle”.

Using its advanced scalable rendering, it will also feature downloadable content like a Rocket League pack that can change the look of your virtual car to match that of the game.

The Unreal Engine will be made available to other manufacturers as well, but it will first be included on the Hummer EV which is not scheduled to launch until late 2021.

The interface, which looks a lot like Tesla’s user-friendly UI, will officially be unveiled when the Hummer EV makes its debut during game one of the World Series.
