Canadians Claim Record-Breaking 20,000+ iZEV Rebates in May 2024

May was a big month for iZEV rebates in Canada, with Canadians claiming more than 20,000 rebates in a single month for the first time since the program’s inception in 2019.

According to the latest data released by Transport Canada, Tesla continues to lead the way with nearly 5,000 rebate claims, while Hyundai has about half that amount, just over 2,600. Kia, and Ford were in a tight race for third place with less than 100 rebates separating the two, but Kia came out ahead with 2,005 rebate claims. (via Automotive News Canada)

Finally, to no one’s surprise, Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia continue to dominate iZEV rebates on a provincial basis. The three provinces account for 86 percent of all Canadian iZEV rebates in May.

Quebec itself is responsible for more than half of the 56 percent of Canadian rebates, which is largely helped by its overall population and the provincial $7,000 EV rebate in the province. However, that could shift in the next few years as Quebec will be phasing out its Roulez Vert rebate program by 2027.
