West Iceland Police Reach One Million Kilometers Using Tesla Model Y fleet

Tesla continues to gain popularity in the Police force across the world as West Iceland Police recorded travelling more than 1 million kilometers in their vehicles. According to the update shared on the Force’s Facebook page, Lögreglan Vesturlandi, the Tesla Model Y AWD made up the bulk of its fleet.

Since the Icelandic department got its first Tesla EVs in 2020, its goal has been to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from driving. As the fleet grows, it is estimated that the Tesla patrol cars have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 85 percent.

The decision to switch completely to electric mobility was made after some department representatives visited England in early 2022. They understudied other forces using Tesla Model 3 patrol cars and obtained first-hand feedback.

The department went with the Tesla Model Y SUV as the preferred candidate for its fleet.

Some officers spoke about how the vehicles have exceeded their expectations since then. According to them, the American EVs have proven to be reliable and require less maintenance compared to traditional patrol cars. The fleet’s energy needs can be easily met, with charging stations more readily available.

The department still hopes to slash emissions by 95 percent by 2030.
