The Tesla Model Y has been confirmed as the top seller in Europe for two consecutive months. Last December, the electric SUV moved 31,562 units, as Automotive News reports using data from market researcher Dataforce.
The figure for the last month of 2022 was 300 percent more than in November. However, it was the 3rd month within four months that Model Y claimed the top spot. The exception was October, when the EV didn’t rank among the top 50.
In second place was the less expensive Model 3, selling 20,258 units in December. While this meant Tesla cleared the top two spots, it was a drop of 25 percent for the battery-powered sedan.
In third place was the Dacia Sandero, which sold 17,592 units.
Altogether, Tesla took the top spot in four months in 2022. The Model 3 was the best seller in Europe in March before the Model Y topped the charts in September, November, and December.
Last year’s top seller in Europe was the Peugeot 208, with a total sale of almost 200,000. However, Model Y can surpass this figure this year if it maintains its momentum.
Tesla is sweetening the deal for buyers with significant price cuts in Europe. The Model Y was China’s best-selling premium SUV in 2022.
