The Tesla Model Y became the second best-selling car in the UK in August, yielding by only a handful of units to Ford Puma. According to the results of sales for the whole of 2023, the Model Y sits in third place in the overall rankings, and has the possibility of reaching the top by the end of the year.
Tesla Model Y became the 2nd best-selling car in August
Tesla’s electric SUV continues to win the love of consumers. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Model Y was the second best-selling car of any type in the UK in August. Last month, 2,313 units were registered. Model Y was only marginally behind the Ford Puma in first place with 2,336. The difference of only 23 units shows how popular the electric car is in the UK. The Vauxhall Corsa, traditionally very popular, is in third place with 1,941 units.
Tesla’s SUV is the third best-selling car in the UK in 2023
Strong sales in 2023 ensured an excellent strengthening of the Tesla Model Y in the automotive market as a whole. With 24,148 units sold, the electric SUV was the third best-selling vehicle in the first eight months of the year. Model Y was behind Ford Puma (29,225) in first place and Vauxhall Corsa (25,692) in second.
The first half of each quarter is traditionally weaker than the second. This is because Tesla vehicles produced during this time are usually sent to more distant markets. Model Ys for the UK market are made in China and take approximately 3-4 weeks to ship. Thus, in August we can see an increase in sales, and in September these become more significant. This time, Tesla sold 2,284 Model Ys in July, only slightly less than in August. It is expected that deliveries in September will be significantly higher, which means the position of the car in the overall ranking may also increase.
