Tesla has just reached four million in production at its Shanghai Gigafactory. The family-sized Tesla Model Y L SUV is gaining popularity, and it is the electric vehicle marking this milestone.
The Gigafactory, also known as Giga Shanghai, crossed the three million production mark in October 2024. Tesla’s growing reach in China is obvious as the American automaker adds another million production just fourteen months later.

Since its construction six years ago, Giga Shanghai has produced close to fifty percent of the automaker’s worldwide deliveries. Construction of the plant began on January 7, 2019, making it China’s first automotive manufacturing site to be fully foreign-owned.
Production of EVs at the factory began in the same year, with local deliveries of the Tesla Model 3 in January 2020, and the Model Y was added a year later. Since then, production capacity has grown to around one million vehicles per year, with deliveries made both to local and international customers.
According to the China Passenger Car Association, Tesla recorded wholesale sales of 86,700 vehicles in November, a 9.95 percent growth compared to last year. Compared to October’s record, the sales rose by 40.98 percent in November.
As Tesla continues to lean heavily on Shanghai for global supply, the factory is now positioned as a major player in its long-term electric vehicle strategy.
