According to CEO Elon Musk, Giga Berlin will have the “world’s most advanced paint shop,” eventually producing cars in three new colours – Deep Crimson, Abyss Blue, and Mercury Silver.
With less than two weeks of official production under its belt, Giga Berlin has so far only delivered Model Y Performance SUVs in black to customers in Germany and other countries in Europe.
That is going to be changing soon, as Drive Tesla has learned production of customer cars finished in white has officially started.
According to a source familiar with the plans, production began earlier this week and deliveries of the first white Giga-Berlin made Model Ys will take place this month.
While the vast majority of the vehicles produced at Giga Berlin have so far been black, there have been a handful of white cars spotted on the grounds of the factory.
During a drone flyover on February 20, five white Model Ys were seen parked in a holding lot among a sea of hundreds of black Model Ys.
Earlier today Tesla reported its first quarterly production and delivery figures which included a contribution from Giga Berlin.
Tesla didn’t specify in the press release how many cars the new factory was able to deliver, but we will likely hear more during the earnings call, which should be scheduled take place in the fourth week of this April.
