Tesla Model X Plaid is faster to 60mph than advertised [Video]

We already know that the Tesla Model S Plaid is a fast car. Not only can it reach 60mph in under 2 seconds, it can also complete a quarter-mile run in under 9 seconds.

Now that that Model X Plaid has started hitting the streets, the high performance electric SUV is proving to be no slouch either.

Tesla’s website advertises that the 5,390lb behemoth can reach 60mph in 2.5 seconds. In what is becoming a familiar trend, Tesla appears to have sandbagged that figure and the Model X Plaid is even quicker.

The YouTube channel Vehicle Virgins got their hands on a new Model X Plaid and while on a regular street with no prep, were able to reach 60mph in just 2.3 seconds.

In a second run that included some wheel spin, they were able to reach 60mph in the claimed 2.5 seconds.

If the time wasn’t impressive enough, it was done when the battery was only at 65% state of charge. As pointed out by the host, if the battery was fully charged, a time of 2.2 (or even lower) could be achievable.

Even CEO Elon Musk chimed on the blistering fast run, saying on Twitter that it means a family SUV can accelerate faster than a Formula 1 race car.
