Mark your calendars for November 10, 2021 at 10:00pm EST (7:00pm PST). That’s when Jay Leno’s Garage will finally air footage of the Tesla Model S Plaid officially setting the record as the fastest production car over the 1/4 mile.
Drive Tesla exclusively broke the story of the record run all the way back in May, just days after Tesla hosted Leno and his crew at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California.
With Tesla’s official driver behind the wheel, the Plaid set a blistering time of 9.23 seconds with a trap speed of 152.16mph (244.88km/h) over the quarter-mile.
The time was enough to knock the previous title holder, the Bugatti Chiron Sport (with a base price of $3,260,000 USD) off the top of the podium.

Showing how easy it is to achieve a fast run in the Plaid, Leno was able to personally set a time of 9.50 seconds – with two extra people and camera equipment in the car (and the A/C on).
Here is a quick taste of what we will see on November 10th from an interview on CNBC earlier this summer.
