We’ve seen a number of drag races this year between Tesla vehicles and their ICE equivalents, or not-so equivalent sometimes. This is the case with this latest drag race between the electric Performance Model 3, a big and powerful SUV, and a sporty sedan.
On paper, the three cars are fairly similar. The Tesla Performance Model 3 weighs in at a little over 4,000lbs and has 490 horsepower and 487lb-ft of torque. The Mercedes Benz GLC 63 AMG is the heaviest at 4,464lbs, but has the most power with 510hp and 516lb-ft of torque. Then there’s the Audi RS5 Sportback at the lower end of the scales at 3,792lbs. It also has the least amount of power, with 450hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.
CarWow puts the vehicles through four tests – a 1/4 mile race, a race with a rolling start from 50mph (80km/h), another rolling start from 30mph (48km/h), and a brake test from 70mph.
As expected with the instant torque of the electric motors, the Model 3 easily beats both cars from a rolling start. The 1/4 mile race from a stop has an interesting result. Check out the full video below to see what happened.
