Electric vehicle (EV) sales in Israel are booming. In the first three quarters of 2021 a total of 7,800 EVs were sold in the country.
That is an increase of 528% from the same time period in 2020.
The lion’s share went to Tesla, which first launched sales in Israel earlier this year. According to data from The Globes, the California automaker accounted for 4,869 of those sales, giving them a dominating EV market share of 60.1%.
The next most popular EV in Israel was the MG ZS from China’s SAIC (1,143), followed by the AIWAYS (278), also manufactured in China.
Even though the fourth quarter is typically a slow period for car sales in Israel, Tesla is expected to buck that trend. The next shipment of cars from Giga Shanghai is scheduled to arrive in Israel in late October or early November.
Based on previous shipments from China, another 1,500 or more Teslas will be sold in Q4.
