Tesla R/C Cybertruck delay to May 2021 confirmed by Mattel [Update]

Mattel has officially confirmed a delay in the release of the 1/10 scale Cybertruck today in an email sent to customers who had placed a pre-order earlier this year.

UPDATE: In a second email, Mattel has also confirmed a delay of the smaller 1/64 scale Cybertruck.

When the two R/C Cybertrucks were unveiled, eager fans quickly snapped up the limited edition Cybertrucks within hours. According to Mattel’s website, the first shipments were expected to begin in December 2020, perfect timing for those wanting to give them as Christmas gifts.

Earlier this month Drive Tesla received an email from Mattel informing us the first shipments of the smaller 1/64 scale were still on schedule, however the larger 1/10 scale was delayed until at least February 15, 2021.

Now Mattel has confirmed the news in an email this morning, extending the delay even further to May 1, 2021.

To help soften the blow, Mattel released new details about the Cybertruck. The first was that it will be coming with a unique storage case (pictured above).

They also provided details on the battery, saying it is a “9.6v @ 3Ah LiFePO4 model” that will provide 30 minutes of continuous use and can recharge in one hour. With this battery, the Cybertruck “can reach up to 250mph (402km/h) scale speed.”

This new battery is a downgrade from what was originally mentioned on the product website:

  • 9.9V, 3300mAh, rechargeable battery, 1:1 charge/run time

Included in the email was a link to confirm you still want to wait for your order to ship, so be sure to check your inbox so you don’t miss out.
