Tesla’s Giga Press supplier IDRA Group has officially unveiled their latest creation at an open house event in Italy, a massive 9,000 ton Giga Press that will be used to build the Cybertruck.
In the weeks leading up to the event, interested parties could sign up to attend. One of those was engineering student Davide Palmieri, who got the opportunity to see the Giga Press up close and learn more about it from IDRA employees this week.
Palmieri shared details of his experience on Reddit, along with many pictures showing just how massive the machine really is.
The Giga Press will remain on display until June 16, at which time it will likely be disassembled and shipped to Giga Texas.
According to one of the employees, taking it apart and putting it back together again is relatively easy, but is made difficult just because of the sheer size of the different components.
The company had been teasing the new Giga Press over the last few months. Images and videos were shared on social media showing that it was painted in Tesla’s signature red and white colour scheme, leading to speculation this latest machine was for them.
That speculation turned out to be correct, with Elon Musk confirming last week that the 9,000 ton Giga Press will be used to create the Cybertruck body.
