Tesla Cybertruck leads EV truck market, ranks fifth in overall EV sales in the US in 2024

The Tesla Cybertruck has proven to be a big hit in its debut year, securing its place as the best-selling electric truck in the United States in 2024. However, its popularity wasn’t limited to the truck segment, as the Cybertruck also gained enough sales to end the year as the fifth best-selling EV overall in North America.

According to data from Kelley Blue Book (KBB), the Cybertruck accumulated 38,965 sales in 2024. That was enough to outpace its closest competitors in the electric truck market, the Ford F-150 Lightning, by more than 5,000 units (33,510). In a distant third was the GMC Hummer EV, which had 13,993 sales, however that figure also includes the SUV variant.

Meanwhile, the Rivian R1T and Chevrolet Silverado EV rounded out the top five, with 11,085 and 7,428 units sold, respectively.

The Cybertruck’s win in 2024 was thanks in part to a strong final quarter, with 12,991 units sold in Q4 alone. For comparison, the Ford F-150 Lightning sold 10,703 units in Q4, while the GMC Hummer EV sold just 5,091 units.

The Cybertruck’s performance throughout the year contributed to Tesla’s continued dominance in the broader EV market. Tesla accounted for nearly 50% of all EV sales in the US in 2024, with the Model Y and Model 3 retaining their positions as the best and second-best-selling EVs, respectively. The Model Y achieved 372,613 units sold, while the Model 3 recorded 189,903 sales.

The Cybertruck’s sales of 38,965 units were enough to have it place fifth overall in the EV rankings, trailing the Hyundai Ioniq5 (44,400 units) and the Ford Mustang Mach-E (51,745 units).

Tesla unfortunately does not report out Cybertruck deliveries, instead lumping them together with the Model S and Model X in the “other models” category. In its Q4 2024 report Tesla said it sold 23,640 of these vehicles, which if the above numbers are accurate, means Tesla sold approximately 10,649 Model S/X vehicles in the final quarter.
