Subaru joins the growing list of automakers adopting NACS

Another week, and another automaker has signed on to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) technology. Subaru is the latest to join the NACS alliance, announcing on Wednesday their EV owners will soon have access to the Supercharger network.

According to Subaru their EV owners will have to wait a little longer than most of the others. Starting in 2025 existing owners will be provided a Combined Charging System (CCS) to NACS adapter, and in the same year Subaru will start integrating the NACS charge port directly into their EVs. It won’t be available on all models released that year, however many that will be, with Subaru only saying it will be included on “certain” EV models in 2025.

This will grant Subaru owners access to over 15,000 Superchargers in Canada and the US, matching the number that Ford announced earlier this week. All of the deals until Ford’s update this week have included access to over 12,000 Superchargers, so it seems Tesla has sweetened the pot even further with an access to an additional 3,000 Superchargers.

Although it has been slow to introduce EVs, the Japanese automaker has recently announced plans to launch eight new EV models in the near future. Reiterated in their announcement today, Subaru is setting its sights on having EVs make up 50% of its global sales by 2030.

One of those future EVs is a three-row electric crossover, scheduled to start production in Kentucky alongside its Toyota counterpart starting in 2025. Toyota has already confirmed the adoption of the NACS port in its three-row EV, all but confirming that Subaru’s sister model will feature it as well.

Other automakers to adopt NACS include Ford, GM, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Fisker, Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus, and more.
