A Volkswagen ID.4 has set a new Guinness World Record for the fewest amount of charging stops for an electric vehicle (EV) journey across Canada.
Rainer Zietlow and his cameraman, Elric Popp, departed from the east coast of Canada on July 25 behind the wheel of a Volkswagen ID.4. Seven days and 7,133km (4,432 miles) Zietlow arrived at Mile-0 on the Trans-Canada Highway in Victoria, British Columbia.
More importantly however, the trip was completed with 18 charging stops, setting a new Guinness World Record for crossing Canada with the fewest charges. That equates to 396km (246 miles) between each charging session.
If driving across Canada in 7 days wasn’t enough, Zietlow has already set off on his next journey, driving from Victoria to St. John’s while visiting all 145 of Volkswagen’s dealerships scattered across Canada. According to the website, they have already visited 15 of those dealers, with the most recent being Turner Volkswagen in Kelowna, BC.
With the record now set, it will only be a matter of time before it is broken. With a range of over 650km (400 miles) and the expansive Supercharger network, the Model S Long Range is ideally suited to take on the task. All that is needed is someone that owns one (or can find one to borrow) and is willing to make the epic drive across the country.
