NIO introduces its version of Navigate on Autopilot, and calls it Navigate on Pilot

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If true, Tesla should have been feeling pretty flattered this past weekend as Chinese EV automaker NIO introduced Navigate on Pilot (NOP).

Not to be confused with Tesla’s Navigate on Autopilot (NOAP), NOP was one of two new features announced by the company on Saturday in a press release. The other interesting/similar feature also announced was Self-Automatic Parking Assist with Fusion (S-APA with Fusion). The two are described by NIO as follows:

“NOP is based on the deep fusion of the navigation system and the NIO Pilot features. It enables the vehicle to drive on and off ramps, pass other vehicles, merge lanes, and navigate planned routes. The price will remain at RMB 39,000.”

“The S-APA with Fusion…upgrade…will be able to detect parking slots based on parking space lines, recognize multiple consecutive available parking spaces, and choose a target parking slot.”

The two new features will be delivered to existing NIO owners via a free over-the-air (OTA) software update.

NIO is also separately repackaging their suite of driver-assist features into two new options. The first is a cheaper “Selected Pack”, which is available as an upgrade for about $2,000, and includes:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Self-Automatic Parking Assist with Fusion
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Cross Traffic Alert-Rear
  • Cross Traffic Alert-Brake
  • Dynamic HMI on IC and Automatic Lane Simulation
  • Automatic High Beam

NIO Pilot’s Full Feature Pack has been replaced by “Complete Pack”, which will be offered at the same price as before (about $5,500) and is now equipped with an upgrade to the existing Automatic Parking Assist (APA), ‘S-APA with Fusion’, and the newly added feature NOP.

Here are the two new packages with a description of each of the features included. Look familiar to anyone?
