Tesla is preparing to announce a new $3.5 billion advanced manufacturing facility in Nevada where the company will build its Semi truck. The new factory will be announced alongside state officials, including Governor Joe Lombardo during an event at Giga Nevada on Tuesday.
Tesla was originally planning to build the Semi truck at its newest factory in the US, Giga Texas. Those plans changed slightly and Tesla switched to building the class 8 truck at a new manufacturing facility just a few minutes up the road from Giga Nevada. Although Tesla never confirmed it, it was presumed that they were sticking with their original plan and would eventually move production over to Giga Texas.
Those plans have now changed again and it appears as though Tesla will be keeping Semi production in Nevada.
In his 2023 State of the Union address given on Monday evening, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo revealed he will be heading to Giga Nevada tomorrow (Tuesday, January 24) to join CEO Elon Musk in announcing a brand new $3.5 billion “advanced manufacturing facility” in northern Nevada where the Tesla Semi will be built. “…I am looking forward to joining Elon Musk and the team at Tesla tomorrow when they unveil plans to build a brand new $3.5 billion advanced manufacturing facility in northern Nevada for the company’s all-electric semi-trucks,” Lombardo said. (via The Nevada Independant)
Lombardo’s address did not go into further details about the location of the new factory, when it will begin construction, or when it is scheduled for completion. This information will hopefully be revealed during the event tomorrow. It is unclear at this point if the event will be livestreamed.
UPDATE 1:10pm PT: The White House has now also confirmed the new factory, saying in a statement it will create 3,000 well paying jobs in Nevada.

It will create more than 3,000 good-paying jobs in Nevada helping America lead in clean energy manufacturing, strengthening our energy security, and ultimately lowering costs for families,” said Mitch Landrieu, Infrastructure Coordinator for President Biden.

Tesla has so far been able to keep this project under wraps as there have been no leaks about it, from its location down to the fact that it was even being considered. There have been a number of rumours that Tesla was preparing to announce a new factory in Mexico last month, but those rumours have yet to come to fruition.
