Rivian is recalling 13,000 vehicles over steering control issue

Rivian announced late today that the company is recalling about 13,000 vehicles, or almost every vehicle they have produced.

As per initial reports from the Wall Street Journal, the automaker recalled their vehicles after discovering a fastener connecting the upper control arm and steering knuckle might have been improperly installed.

In rare cases, the improperly installed fastener could lead to a loss of steering control on the vehicle.

As per Bloomberg reporting, the issue was only discovered in seven vehicles.

However, out of an abundance of caution, Rivian issued the recall.

As per Ed Ludlow on Twitter, the recall is voluntary, and it is a quick fix.

According to the Rivian customer letter, the fastener in question ‘may not have been sufficiently torqued’.

In a statement, a Rivian spokesperson said the following:

The safety of our customers will always be our top priority, and we are committed to fixing this issue on any affected vehicles as quickly as possible. We will make any necessary adjustments free of charge at one of our service centres.

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nor Transport Canada has listed the recall as of yet.

However, with the holiday weekend, we should expect to see an update early next week.
