After announcing a major Canadian investment last month, Stellantis has revealed details of what it intends to do with two of its facilities in Windsor and Brampton, Ontario.
The automaker will retool the Windsor plant to build a large electric vehicle (EV) platform capable of travelling 500 miles (804km) on a single charge. The plant will stop building the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger in 2024.
Stellantis, which owns the Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands, said the Brampton plant will build an unannounced vehicle, and will provide more details at a later date.
The details come one month after the automaker announced plans to spend $3.6 billion on the two facilities. The money will go towards retooling the facilities, Windsor in 2023 and Brampton in 2024, to build flexible multi-energy vehicles and the “electric vehicles of the future.”
Additionally the company will expand its Automotive Research and Development Centre.
The Canadian investment is part of a broader $45 billion investment globally for the company to secure its long-term electrification strategy.
