The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recalled Tesla’s Boombox feature for a second time in as many months.
In early February the federal agency issued a recall to disable the feature while the car is in Drive, Neutral, or Reverse, limiting owners to only be able to play custom sounds while the car was in Park.

The reasoning was that playing ice cream trucks sounds or farting at pedestrians could obscure the federally mandated Pedestrian Warning System (PWS) sounds, even though the sounds are mutually exclusive.
Today the NHTSA issued a second recall, this time to disable Boombox when using Summon or Smart Summon.
The feature will be disabled through a free over-the-air (OTA) software update.
Tesla will deploy an OTA firmware update that will disable the Boombox functionality when the vehicle is in Drive, Neutral or Reverse, including if Summon or Smart Summon is in use.
The notice says that 594,717 vehicles are covered under the recall, including 2017-2022 Model 3, and 2020-2022 Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles.
