Porsche has announced it intends to build out its own global network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
The plan was revealed at the automaker’s annual meeting this week, where they also announced their next two EVs – the Macan in 2023 and 718 Boxster in 2025.
The Porsche charging stations will feature more than just the chargers themselves. According to comments made by CEO Oliver Blume and deputy chairman and member of executive board, Lutz Meschke during a press briefing, the stations will also have lounges where owners can sit and relax, or work, while their cars are charging.
“It’s not just about charging, it’s also to get more convenience in the direction of our customers. And that’s very important for us that we not only focus on the electrification of our cars, but also about the customer journey beyond the car,” Meschke said. (via TechCrunch)
Porsche will build their first charging stations next year in high-demand areas in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
The German automaker will focus on building out the network in Europe, before expanding to other markets like China and North America.
Despite the announcement, Porsche will continue their partnership in Europe with Ionity and in North America with Electrify America and Electrify Canada.
“We are jointly investing in premium charging stations alongside partners and in our own charging infrastructure,” Blume said.
Porsche did not elaborate on the number of charging stations they intend to build, or how much it will cost.
