A Tesla Cybertruck has been spotted in California featuring what appears to be the updated design. The video is short but shows off one design feature we knew was coming, and another we suspected was going to be included.
This Cybertruck was spotted by Jesse Sandoval, who tells Drive Tesla the video was taken at the Castle Airport in Atwater, California, about a 2-hour drive from the Fremont factory.
As soon as the video starts the biggest visible change to the Cybertruck’s design is the addition of side mirrors. The prototype version that has been spotted numerous times since its unveiling in late 2019 used cameras instead of conventional side mirrors.
Since using cameras is still illegal in most jurisdictions around the world, we suspected side mirrors would have to be included, but this is the first time we have seen evidence of them on the Cybertruck.
UPDATE: Elon Musk has confirmed the Cybertruck will come with side mirrors, but will be easily removable by owners.
They’re required by law, but designed to be easy to remove by owners

The other feature that Tesla appears to be testing is rear wheel steering. CEO Elon Musk said in July the feature would be added to the electric truck, saying it would allow it to “do tight turns & maneuver with high agility.”
You can’t tell for certain from the video but it does appear to be turning in a tighter radius that what you would expect from a truck its size. The still from the video above does also appear to show the rear wheels turned to the right while the front wheels are turned to the left.
Despite the sighting, the Cybertruck is still a long way away from hitting the streets. Musk recently announced production would not start until late 2022 before ramping up into 2023.
Could this mean he is sandbagging that estimate?
