Rivian begins R1T deliveries with first units handed over to long-time employees

Rivian has officially kicked off deliveries of the R1T electric pickup truck. The company held a special delivery event Friday night with the keys to the first production vehicles handed over to long-time employees.

The deliveries were announced by none other than Rivian founder and CEO RJ Scaringe. In a series of photos shared to Twitter, Scaringe thanked the employees for the hard work and dedication, some of which have been with the company since it started more than 11 years ago.

Unfortunately the CEO did not provide details on the numbers of R1T trucks delivered on Friday night, or when the first reservation holders will be the ones taking delivery.

These first deliveries mark the culmination of a long journey for the company. Originally hoping to deliver the first vehicles in June, the automaker had to delay them until September. All signs have been pointing to them meeting that target, with the first customer-ready R1T rolling off the production line earlier this month.

In recent weeks Rivian has also released its mobile app to the iOS App Store and Google Play Store, and published the R1T Owner’s Guide to its website.

R1T deliveries in Canada are not expected to begin until October, with R1S deliveries starting soon thereafter.
