Electrify Canada and Electrify America to more than double EV charging network by 2025

Electrify Canada and Electrify America announced plans this morning to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging network to more than double its current size.

Calling it the “Boost Plan”, the company aims to have more than 1,800 fast charging stations and 10,000 individual chargers in North America by the end of 2025.

“We have decided to double our current charging infrastructure in North America over the next four years to help meet the need for the rapid growth expected of electric vehicles by virtually all the auto manufacturers, and to help make EV adoption more accessible and attractive than ever. We are making this commitment to support the plans by major automakers and the U.S. and Canadian governments to help the transformation to an electric mobility transportation system,” said Giovanni Palazzo, president and chief executive officer, Electrify America.

Electrify Canada currently has 32 charging stations, and plans to increase that to more than 100 locations and 500 chargers over the next four and a half years.

The plans are too early to release details about the exact locations of the new fast chargers in Canada. The company did however release a few images showing the proposed route, which adds a significant numbers of charging stations along the Trans-Canada Highway connecting their current stations in the western and eastern parts of the country.

In a statement, Electrify Canada said the new stations would be placed at strategic locations in metropolitan centers, along major highways and near popular amenities, allowing most EVs travel from Halifax, NS, to Victoria, BC.

In the U.S., Electrify America aims to have more than 1,700 locations and 9,500 chargers by the end of 2025. The expansion will give it a presence in 49 states and the District of Columbia.
